A microwave is literally just a more powerful oven. Can people please pay attention in Physics and bring this stigma that we are “nuking” our food when we use microwaves. Eating microwave food is about as dangerous radiation wise as letting sun light touch you.
I didn’t say anything about nutrients or calories (I imagine that’s energy). I was referring to the idea that food is irradiated or made unhealthy by microwaving specifically vs using ovens and other devices. Yes, food does lose nutritional value when microwaved just like how food loses nutritional value when anything is done to it that isn’t literally putting nutrients in it.
The main point I was trying to get across is that microwaves don’t use radiation the way you are thinking. Microwaves use well, microwaves which are a specific frequency of electromagnetic energy. Unlike the kind of energy given off from say radioactive particles, known as nuclear energy, microwaves do not leave behind residual radiation or anything like that.
It’s a burst of heat and then it’s done. Yes, if you stick your hand in a microwave while it’s being used you probably will be irradiated and develop cancer, just like you would standing under an X ray for too long or now, as I used as an example, extreme prolonged sunlight can do. Eating food that has been microwaved is absolutely safe though and is not “nuked”
